Stuart is a published poet who has been writing poems since the late ‘70s. The subject for his poetry covers a wide range of topics including historical events, mythology and legends. Several poems in his early volumes covered the Arthurian Legend. This appealed to the newly formed musical artist, Requiem For Humanity for whom Stuart used those early poems as the foundation of lyrics for songs. You can read his collection of poetry here.
Requiem For Humanity are keen on producing concept albums and so Stuart was required to create more poems on the Arthurian theme to help complete the album’s quota of songs. It’s symbiotic relationship between the artist and the poetry where poems become lyrics for the musical artist and lyrics revert to poems for the poet.
Stuart was able to call upon his long-term friend, Mark A. Allen, for a guiding hand in respect of the musical direction and arrangement, as well as shaping the lyrics. Stuart suggested the pursuit of a series of songs that would highlight Keystone Species and their role in securing the ecology of the world.
This mutualistic partnership has been adopted by Masters of Adversity, who produce similar concept albums, but prefer historical events, often focussing on “man’s inhumanity to man”. This took Stuart’s writing along untrodden paths and required research for the band’s first release “Blood of the Black Hills”. An E.P. called "The Ballad of the MacGregors" was released in 2025 containing five songs that had derived from four poems published by Stuart in 2000 and 2020.
Stuart has had a long-term love interest in “Heavy Rock” and several of its subgenres. His first live rock gig was in 1980 since when he has clocked up attendance at over three-hundred gigs. He saw Two Steps From Hell live and their “Epic Rock/Cinematic/ Trailer” music (orchestral rock) hit the mark for him, so Stuart was delighted that this was an inspiration for the music of Requiem For Humanity.
Similarly, Stuart loves Symphonic Rock/Metal, which is the preferred style of Masters of Adversity. Stuart’s love of more orthodox rock music like New Wave of British Heavy Metal bands of his youth to the Indi-Rock, Alternative sounds of more recent Heavy Metal artists saw him write poems that leant themselves to be picked up by the artist Whirling Circle of Death who released a couple of singles at the end of 2025.
With demand for lyrics growing, Stuart is delighted to be able to turn to Mark and Chas G. Peters for assistance and the three are able to offer guidance on musical direction. All three of the aforementioned musical artists are under the guidance of Amusia Music who embraces the collaborative process of Stuart along with Mark and Chas.
2026 is expected to be an even more productive process. Not just for the bands, but also for Stuart as he seeks to publish the recent collection of lyrics reverted back to a more recognisable poetry format.
